The Shahid Rajaei Street Harmonization project, spanning 600 meters, is not a simple renovation but a profound intervention into the memory and visual landscape of Babolsar. This street, recognized as the historical spine of the city with roots in the First Pahlavi era, had seen its integrity eroded by decades of severe visual pollution,the result of a chaotic intrusion of commercial signs and unprincipled facade changes. This aesthetic crisis intensified when the new stone paving entered into a stark sensory and visual conflict with the fragmented commercial facades.

• The Philosophy of Order: From History to Mathematical Coherence

The core design strategy was founded on reconciling the contemporary city"s commercial needs with the historical authority of the place. The design integrated two fundamental dimensions:

1.      Re-reading History: Restoration and redesign focused on translating the simple geometric motifs and disciplined proportionality of the First Pahlavi era into a clean, modern architectural language. The goal was not imitation but the creation of a singular visual subject connected to the city"s historical memory, characterized by order and sobriety.

1.      Primal Order (The Fibonacci Sequence): To contain the primary source of chaos -the random repetition of commercial signs- a universal and proven mathematical principle was employed. The Fibonacci sequence was chosen as an absolute rhythmic control device. The application of Fibonacci is precisely limited to governing the pattern of repetition, spacing, and placement of the signage modules along the 600-meter axis, strictly avoiding intervention in the structural dimensions of the existing facades. This intelligent maneuver imposes a natural and aesthetically pleasing proportion onto the most visually chaotic element, creating a space whose order is rooted in nature and provides tranquility to human visual perception.

• Project Sustainability: From Regulation to Social Participation

Beyond the physical execution, the project emphasizes social and economic sustainability:

• Signage Regulation (Manual Regulation): A comprehensive and transparent Implementation Guideline was developed for the merchants. These stringent regulations standardize the material, color code, font, and luminosity of signs, ensuring every new sign fits perfectly within the Fibonacci-defined module.

• Boosting Social Capital: This design is more than aesthetic; by creating an attractive and safe pedestrian environment, it directly impacts the local micro-economy. The generated order and beauty increase customer Dwell Time, fostering a sense of belonging and transforming the street into a cultural tourism and shopping destination.

• Self-Regulating Sustainability: The long-term success of the scheme rests on the active and informed participation of merchants and citizens. By providing a clear system, the project functions as a Self-Regulating Mechanism, ensuring the visual identity remains resilient against future changes, extending the project"s lifespan beyond its initial construction.

This project is a masterclass in urban landscape design, where mathematical order reconciles with historical memory, elevating the public space from a chaotic thoroughfare to a proportional and aesthetically cohesive urban gallery.
